About Rochon Sands

Rochon Sands Provincial Park is located on the southern shores of Buffalo Lake within the summer village also named Rochon Sands. Buffalo Lake is part of the Red Deer River basin and is about 94 square kilometers in size – giving users plenty of space to enjoy the lake.

Summer at Rochon Sands

Rochon Sands Provincial Park is located on the shores of Buffalo Lake and this plays a large role in the activities in the park. Swimmers can enjoy a beach in the park and boaters can enjoy the large lake (although there is a 10km/h speed limit within 30m of the shores to prevent erosion). Water skiing, sailing, and wind surfing are popular activities on Buffalo Lake. For canoers and kayakers, there is plenty of bird watching opportunities. The lake is good for fishing and wildlife viewing as well.

On land, there is camping, group camping, geocaching, and hiking opportunities in the park.

Winter at Rochon Sands

Rochon Sands Provincial Park is open year round although they close vehicle access to the park during the winter months. The campground remains open for winter camping however.

Day Use at Rochon Sands

Rochon Sands Provincial Park has one day use area along the shores of Buffalo Lake open between May 17 and October 11. There is a boat launch, change rooms, cook shelter, firepits, firewood (for sale), fish cleaning stations, interpretive viewpoint, pay phone, pier, outhouses, and water taps.
