About Vermilion

Vermilion Provincial Park is medium provincial park located along the Vermilion River immediately adjacent to the Town of Vermilion east of Edmonton. The park was created in 1953 and was the 7th park in the Alberta Parks system.

Day Use at Vermilion

There are 5 day use areas at Vermilion Provincial Park. These areas are the CN Station Building, CN Station, Upper, Lower, and Trout Pond.

  1. CN Station Building Day Use – The CN Station Building Day Use Area is a former Canadian National (CN) train station that was relocated to the park to serve as a day use facility in Vermilion Provincial Park. There is flush toilets, playground, and power outlets. This day use area is open year-round. The building is available for rental by calling 780-853-4327.
  2. CN Station Day Use – This day use area is on the exterior of the CN train station building. There is a playground, firepits, firewood (for sale), cook shelter, water taps, and outhouses available. This day use area is open between May 1 and September 30.
  3. Upper Day Use Area – The Upper Day Use Area is a good picnic spot because there is a dedicated picnic shelter, outhouses, and water taps. It is open between May 1 and September 30.
  4. Lower Day Use Area – The Lower Day Use Area is another picnic area. There are firepits, picnic tables, and volleyball areas here for visitors. It is open between May 1 and September 30.
  5. Trout Pond Day Use Area – The Trout Pond Day Use Area is a good picnic spot because there is a dedicated picnic shelter, outhouses, and water taps. It is open between May 1 and September 30.
