In addition to the Provincial Parks across the province, the Provincial Parks Act also establishes Wildland Provincial Parks (WPP) in order to “preserve and protect natural heritage and provide opportunities for backcountry recreation.” Generally, the Wildland Provincial Parks are larger, much less developed, and more remote. Accessing them is often a lot more challenging than normal Provincial Parks. Recreational opportunities are more limited due to their more environmental focus.
